Tsunami Warning System with Sea Surface Features Derived from Altimeter Onboard Satellites
نویسنده
چکیده
A tsunami warning system based on active database system with satellite derived real-time data of tidal, significant wave height and ocean wind speed as well as assimilation data of sea level changes as one of the global risk management systems is proposed. Also, Geographic Information System (GIS) with free open source software of PostGIS is proposed for active database system. It may be said that the proposed tsunami warning and evacuation information provided system is recommendable. Keywords—Active database system; ocean related data stream; assimilation data; altimeter onboard satellites; Geographic Information System (GIS), tsunami

Variations in Sea Surface Roughness Induced by the 2004 Sumatra-Andaman Tsunami
Observations of tsunamis away from shore are critically important for improving early warning systems and understanding of tsunami generation and propagation. Tsunamis are difficult to detect and measure in the open ocean because the wave amplitude there is much smaller than it is close to shore. Currently, tsunami observations in deep water rely on measurements of variations in the sea surface...
متن کاملThe Story of GANDER
GANDER – for Global Altimeter Network Designed to Evaluate Risk – was an idea that was probably ahead of its time. Conceived at a time when ocean observing satellites were sometimes 10 years in the planning stage, the concept of affordable faster sampling through the use of altimeter-carrying microsats was primarily advanced as a way of detecting and tracking storms at sea on a daily basis. But...
متن کاملSensitivity analysis of the tsunami warning potential
Tsunamis are normally generated by underwater earthquakes. The earthquakes are normally easily detected by seismographs. However, the earthquake may not always generate a tsunami. Further, the severity of the earthquake is not linearly related to the severity of the tsunami. The tsunami may be detected by a deep-sea pressure transducer communicating through a surface rider buoy, through satelli...
متن کاملHow Numerical Simulations May Contribute to Tsunami Risk Preparedness: The 26 December 2004 Indian Ocean Event and the Thailand Case Study
The tsunami information, i.e. the sea level elevation, presents useful features that can be used for different case studies. It can be derived from observations, e.g. tide gages records or anomaly of sea level obtained with altimeters, but also through numerical modeling of the tsunami propagation. Once a robust numerical simulation is performed, the wave sequence, compared to available hydrody...

Abstract Today, the world has reached a new nature with advances in science. The Internet of Things is a technology that can connect all objects in different fields through the Internet. Any unforeseen event that destroys economic, social and physical capabilities and inflicts human and financial losses is known as a natural disaster, such as a tsunami. IoT-based tsunami forecasting system ...
